On The Roof is a short film and EP developed through observing the rooftops outside of my window during my first year of living in New York. For many weeks I observed how the chimneys blew smoke, and at night their lights shone to illuminate the fire exits, like the front porches of houses back in my hometown of New Orleans. It became a little daily ritual for me to look at them and ground myself. I started filming them, and other things outside of my window to document this new experience of the season of winter, and my own personal seasons of joy, grief, and love. After compiling and editing together some of the material, I sent it to my friend and collaborator Shane Avrard, who composed part of the score to my edit of the film using organ percussion and electric guitar. In addition, I added on synthesized sounds generated from a 1960 Wall Moog in a 30 minute improvisational peice, and with a bit of final editing, the film and soundtrack came together. The track is featured on the full EP "On the Roof" that is available on all streaming cites and apps. Shot and Edited by Aleah Hyer Music by Shane Carlos Avrard and Aleah Hyer
